sorry the consumer in me is ready for the Dodge Avenger. I think it's be sweet to get a superhero-esque paint scheme that is on the conservative side of things.

anyway, here are a few links that i've been reading! and no i will not comment on that current hot topic, you know the one, the one about charlie sheen shutting the government down using nuclear reactors... yeah, not gonna comment on that.

Florida (there's a reason they have their own tag)

7 deaths and counting are now on this church's head. they knew what would happen and they did it anyway, i'm guessing in an attempt to draw the muslim community out to attack the church specifically, but it'd be best if their church disappeared altogether due to reaction from the local christian community.

Anger of Quran burning by Church in Florida... Yes, that church

i wish there was a way to communicate to the world that in general, we're not ignorant, racist, stupid, illogical, offensive, hateful people here in America.

I value the integration of all religions in society, i believe there is a place and value that each can provide. I myself am an Atheist, but i understand the role of religion in people's lives. Do i think that on some level the reaction is a bit much, yes, but at the same time it was provoked by some media whore church in Florida.

The thing is, that you can't just burn a bible or a flag or a map of Florida to get these people to understand how offensive their act was. And they are so far removed from the actions in Afghanistan that the death of others means nothing to them. And i certainly wouldn't wish violence on them. So how does a civilized society deal with a church that has decided to go against any semblance of peace, brotherhood, respect and humanity? i guess we'll see.

Oh how I missed this

It has been about 10 years since i first played this game, and boy did i love the intro theme.

Delta Force 2, the game not the movie starring Chuck Norris.

See kids, back in the day you couldn't just rush into compounds and hope to save any hostages terrorists might be keeping. In fact you never really knew where the bad guys would be, and you certainly didn't have enough ammo to spray and pray. You had to use strategy, you had to use your map and a pair of binoculars, and the enemy, they were pretty good at spotting things in the distance. You could maybe take two hits if you were wearing armor. It demanded perfection...

Oh yeah, here's another blast from my past, great soundtrack, and way more fun than Starcraft and command and conquer, yeah i said it

workout status

did my first dry run of the fitness test today after waking up not too shabby, didn't want to over-exert just get an idea of where i am comfortable. I have over 2 weeks to get back into good shape for the test itself but here's what i was comfortable doing. as soon as i see the standards again i'll work to above those levels.

1 min = 50 pushups
1 min = 50 situps
10 min/mile
(since this was a gauge i'll be in the gym later today to build upon those)

the standards (as provided by This Website)
67 = perfect pushups 10 pts
58 = perfect situps 10 pts
33in = perfect waist 20 freebie pts
11:57 = min run 50 pts (or excellent minimum if i do well on the rest)
10:30 = my goal
9:12 = crack head perfect

Here's the gameplan for the rest of today
finish out 200 challenge
walk .5 more miles
sprint .5 miles
a little xbox Your Shape Fitness evolved
possibly Insanity to kill my muscles tonight and prep for tomorrow's workout

Meals for rest of today
oatmeal, walnuts, berries
salmon fillet and some veggies for lunch
chicken breast and veggies for dinner.

Why do I even have one?

why i'll stop donating money to people who call me.

A Minirant by a mostly sober charitable fellow that hates being taken for a fool.

Chapter 1: (Fade in, we see the rebel starship being shot at by something revealed later to be an imperial destroy.. [ring ring ring])

They always start the call thanking me for my donation last year. They do it even when i haven't lived in a place for a year. The charity always has a name that's 1 or 2 words different each week "breast cancer relief fund" "research fund" "research foundation" etc. and while i get that many of these organizations might actually exist it seems highly inefficient for all of them to be working independently. That's not a knock on cancer (which, as i understand biology, is not really a thing one could prevent without finding some sort of antimutation fountain). Really its anger that each month its some new topic, i got 4 different law enforcement organizations last month, and next month will probably be 4 different fire fighter groups (or unions if they really feel like threatening me). They always sound aggressive and make you feel bad for not giving them money which you presumably have been doing from years. I keep the stickers from those i have donated to (in addition to the verified organizations i donate to during CFC) next to my phone. Of course they don't take no for an answer, so i clarify to see if they are in fact the organization i've researched a bit and feel comfortable supporting. [Tangent: there are organizations out there that are like 90% overhead and MAYBE 10% of raised funds actually do anything... I'm looking at you BONO "it's an awareness fund" BONOson, i'll link it in the comments]. The more often it happens the more i see the sales tactic, that puts me on the defensive, and saying "well we have your info" doesn't help. I kind of want to know where they got it, the sad truth is probably from whoever sells your email address to spammers. And the biggest reason i won't anymore is that they call ANYTIME, day or night.

You know the only practical way to figure out what happened is to come up with a system where you plant obvious fake info with your trusted organizations. It has to be different for each one so you can find the patient zero for all your 3 am phone calls about the Lonely Congressman Fund. But that's more work, so for now the good charities will lose out, and their vengeance will be to ticket me, watch my home burn, and give me that stuff in microwave popcorn that causes your cells to replicate funky until i'm old enough to receive phone calls from lawyers wanting to profit on my new case of mesotheliombrotic canceryphillis aids. 3.50 per person that's a class settlement i'll answer my phone for.

this minirant brought to you by the FEED THE LIEUTENANTS! fund, helping Lt's break their horrible addiction to Top Ramen and Ketchup since 1904.

(I have a home phone because sometimes I have to be reached within a short period of time to do my job, it's also why i tend to answer even though it's most likely a telemarketer)

Can we take a step back for a second

Students Call Teacher a Pedo unjustifiably and the Parents are mad the kids get punished.

Suspension for 10 days, for what could have irreversibly ruined a teacher's career, community status, ability to live where they do, and potentially their entire future as a functioning member of society. I think that's fair, i think it's reasonable. In order to judge whether the expulsion i'd have to see how the term rapist was applied to the innocent teacher.

How can a parent argue with that? The school is doing what the parent would not, teaching the children to take some responsibility for their online language.

As far as free speech, i get it, the kids should say what they want. But if we're going to say that no consequences can arise from their actions online, then it doesn't make sense to me to use those posts as probable cause to investigate a teacher.

What a common day analogy to "The Boy Who Cried Wolf".

I kind of want to see how the school district's lawyer's handle it. Given that it's a public school, i find it funny that they are essentially suing the taxpayers (and thus themselves) out of money they probably don't have to spare. I'd go into a long rant here about how they aren't making anything better by doing so and completely teaching the wrong message to their kids about right/wrong, but i already did one rant tonight, about telephones...

10 days is completely fair. There are better ways to "express yourself", for instance an After School Art program, or Poetry not involving criminalizing innocent people, or perhaps an aggressive game of softball.

Things that make you go...

"What's wrong with your Face?"
This is RedLetterMedia's review of the Phantom Menace, and while the tone seems a bit offputting, the review itself is full of great tips on film making, storytelling, and common sense. I personally like the side stories he tells, and if you get hooked like i did and watch all three prequel movies you see it come to the inevitable conclusion... me not getting a pizza roll in the mail.

"What's that UP in the Sky?"

The house from UP was built for a new show on NatGeo and well, it flies. See for yourself.

"Where's the Rubber Sasquatch Suit?"
Skepticism at its finest, Bacteria on a Meteorite? You (a NASA scientist) went with a small journal, Fox News, and the internet with your findings. Well that doesn't raise any flags in itself but it doesn't help your case. Many of us would love for your findings to be accurate, and to find life elsewhere in our Universe. Our way of thinking about life would change forever... until then i'm waiting for the rubber suit to be revealed.

That reminds me of a story about why Unicorns should exist, they are certainly more likely to exist than Narwhals.

The 200 Challenge

Even if you only do it once, add your name in the comments.

Here's the challenge:
In One day do 200 situps, 200 pushups, 50x4 count jumping jacks, 50x4 count flutterkicks, 50 pullups, and 50 standing high jumps.

obviously if you are just beginning it's probably easier to do these in small sets of 10 or 25, and it only takes a couple seconds to knock that amount out. So give it a shot. I'm using this as the basis for my fitness test prep, so in addition to doing the 200 challenge i still have to include either a distance run or sprints, as well as any other weight workout i need.

In other news, here's what i've been sharing with the world.

The trailer for Super , a film starring Rainn Wilson has hit the web.

Leaked game footage from Battlefield 3 has also hit the web, highlighting some particle lighting effects.

The iPad 2 was announced, prompting this response from Conan. I still don't have a need for an iPad but early adopters are selling their original ones for quite cheap (for about 50 bucks really) and i'm sure retailers will be trying to dump their stock of original iPads before the March 11th release.
